Health Care Finance (Module 1-CBT) Research Paper
Health Care Finance (Module 1-CBT) - Research Paper Example The industry average for health care industry is a current ratio of 2:1. Days in accounts receivables show how many days it will take for OHC to collect its outstanding receivables. As shown from above, OHC took 32.91 days (on average) to collect its receivables in 2007; and this situation has worsened in 2008 where the company took 55.22 days to collect the outstanding amounts. These high values show that there may be a problem in revenue collection process and the company needs to address the issue quickly to ensure that receivables are collected in quick time. The analysis of liquidity ratios shows that the company is fairly liquid. It is able to meet its short term obligations. However, the days in accounts receivable has worsened than 2007 and some action may be required to reduce the number of days to collect outstanding funds. The operating margin ratio was 76.5% in 2007 which shows that the cost of services provided by OHC is small as compared to the revenue generated (that is, for every $1 revenue, the company incurs an operating cost of $0.235. This shows healthy performance. The operating margin ratio has improved in 2008 (as it increases to 78.5%). This shows that the operating cost has gone further down as compared to 2007. As shown from above, OHC was fairly profitable in 2007 and the gross profit margin has increased in 2008. Although, it may be argued that healthcare organization should not have very high profit margins as this indicates that they are charging high fee from patients. c. Return on Assets (ROA) The ROA for OHC is calculated as below: Return on Assets for OHC Medical Center Year Net Income / Total Assets = ROA 2007 $37,370,000 / $44,450,000 = 84.07% 2008 $34,177,000 / $49,370,000 = 69.23% Although the company has been profitable during 2007 and 2008; but the above table shows that OHC has not been able to effectively utilize its assets towards generation of profits. The Return on Assets was 84% in 2007 which was satisfactory but it declined sharply in 2008 to 69%. This may not be acceptable to shareholders as this indicate

Australiaââ¬â¢s major export includes agricultural products, like wool, wheat, minerals etc. International marketing environment in Australia The important factors of International marketing environment of Australia are as follows: Political environment Australia is a liberal-capitalistic democracy. Through government interference, they can decide the a mount of importation taxes to be imposed to protect the domestic economy. They can also create an environmental protection laws to protect the natural heritage of the country. It will automatically affect the Australian economy, since it will affect the amount of trade which takes place and also the exchange rates faced by it. With the global financial meltdown the Australian economy slowed down. The Australian economy is expected to grow due to its demand for raw materials from China. Research Paper Example Unfortunately for all of the wonderful personal and societal freedoms that are protected, by the 1st Amendment, its protection also allows some questionable speeches, attitudes, and actions that may be less than deserving of that protection to continue. Some people today feel that certain forms of ââ¬Å"freedom of speechâ⬠should be regulated, while others believe that it will only result in censorship and creep into areas where it should not be. However, the protection of freedom of speech is allowing things like bullying and hate crimes to continually slip through the cracks. For this reason it seems only ethical to reform the 1st Amendment to tackle these issues and continue to allow the spirit of freedom of speech to be maintained while making it harder and less legal to cause harm to others under the guise of freedom of speech. HISTORY The 1st Amendment reads ââ¬Å"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievancesâ⬠(Michigan States University , 2013). ... When such cases where freedom of speech has been put into question the court must review the situation from a specific perspectives."Content neutrality" refers to the reality that the court cannot be involved in the government limiting the artistic expression of any American, even if that expression may be found objectionable by some viewers or listeners (America Civil Liberties Union, 2006). However, it should be made clear that the 1st Amendment refers to the government and political involvement in an issueââ¬â¢ this does not cover any and all applications of freedom of speech. For example no one is ââ¬Å"consequence freeâ⬠when they decide that their need for expression influences them to shout ââ¬Å"fire!â⬠in a crowded building when there is not one. Or for things one says at their job. The first Amendment cannot always be used as a means to protect ones employment and to gain a free pass for telling off their boss, arguing with employees, or bad-mouthing the comp any that they work for. The 1st Amendment does not cover private businesses only prevents the government from interfering (Freedman, 2012), DISCUSSION Our founding fathers did not intend that the Amendment would be used by those with ulterior motives to spreads propaganda, hate, and agendas filled with cruel words. They certainly did not think that people should be able to say whatever they feel like saying without any repercussions, after all the founding fathers believed that if another said false words against you could be taken to court and accuse them of slander. It is these instances that many Americans are beginning to believe require government intervention and regulation. While others admit

Types of organizations Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Types of organizations - Essay Example Although the world and its intelligent inhabitants have progressed greatly in these years, the importance and magnitude of innovation has been a constant factor. Even in this highly compact, globalized, industrialized culture, we need a constant burst of innovation to keep the society from going back into ultimate regression. A society that does not move forward goes backward. The reason is the constant competition, which is peculiar to the capitalist world economy. Societies, which cease to innovate, lag behind than those who keep changing for the better. Thus, in totality, they regress (Knights, 2003). Familiar with the importance of innovation in modern times, it is important to emphasize the central role it plays in the organizational settings. All sorts of organizations across the world need to keep their pace with the ever-expanding world economy. With more and more people joining the competition and striving for an upward financial mobility, the instinct to bring out something new and unique than others is of paramount importance. Companies that cannot stand out from their competitors do not survive. It is not difficult to comprehend then, that recruiters look out for candidates who stand out and have an ability to offer something new, something unique than their counterparts (Argyris, 1965). Anyhow, this paper attempts to expand on impact of innovation on organizations by evaluating three different types of organizations, namely armed forces, universities and non-governmental organizations and the role, innovation or innovative individuals play in their working. Armed forces are the most crucial part of a state. Although, popular notions about army makes one think that they are the most rigid structures available with the least amount of spaces for innovation. However, opposite is true. Army operates in times of war where all forces thrive on their estimation of the enemyââ¬â¢s strategies and it is at this front that innovation saves the day. By stra tegizing innovatively, the armed force can escape the estimations made by the enemy and save them a defeat. An innovative captain will save his army and land by placing his army men at spots where they are least expected. University is a place where ideas are born and tested. It is, in fact, the home of all innovations. It is also a place, which keeps changing. With an influx of new sets of students every year, a university has to keep revising its policies, criteria, and strategies to cater to the changing needs of the student body. A rigid system of education will only produce students who will not be able to survive the new world that they have been blinded from. For example, imagine what will happen if a medical, school teaches an outdated method to its students which is recently deemed dangerous. Those who were apt enough to stay updated with the new technology and learn the new methods will leave behind the doctors who did not. Finally, an NGO is one place where one cannot do without innovation. The reason being, innovation resides at the very core of the ideology at which the whole NGO industry is built up. This underlying ideology is to provide innovative solutions to the problems faced by the deprived people of developing nations. The need for innovation is crucial because the people approached by the NGOs

Promoting sustainable resources energy to produce water in Saudi Essay
Promoting sustainable resources energy to produce water in Saudi Arabia - Essay Example The environmental damage is making the process more expensive hence the need for sustainable methods of water production. The country should thus shift their operations to sustainable desalination systems that can support the ever-increasing demand for water resources. Energy demands in Saudi Arabia From all the available sources, the current capacity of producing energy in Saudi Arabia is about 50,000MW and this keeps on growing with 3,000MW annually (Oil and Gas Report, 2013). This annual growth is relatively bigger when compared to other countries in the gulf region. The government of Saudi Arabia invests about 1,125 billion dollars to cater for the energy needs between now and 2018. In the year 2009 alone, the country used about 100 million barrels of oil to produce energy and this implies that they consume one quarter of all their oil in domestic uses. The demand for electricity demand in Saudi Arabia is expected to increase by 70,000MW in the next twenty years, and at this rate only sustainable energy resources can be trusted to drive the countryââ¬â¢s growth and demands (Saudi Arabia Country Profile, 2013). The economy of the country is highly dependent on oil exports and if the local consumption is not substituted with other sustainable energy demands, their economic growth may be adversely affected in future. Water desalination heavily relies on the use of fossil fuel energy and with this rate of increased demand; their ability to export oil and earn revenues will be greatly jeopardized. The increased rate of fossil fuel energy production is not a sign of economic development but a sign of inefficient use of energy. Water uses in Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabia produces 24 million cubic meters of water per day and this represents about a half of the world-desalinated water in the word. Currently the country is building the world largest solar powered desalination facility to supplement the fossil fuel desalination. The country cannot rely on its oil reser ves since they have already used about 70% of their oil natural reserves and therefore are at risk of losing their water supply. The demand of water increases by about 8% of the water reserves and this number is expected to double in the next few yeas meaning the country have to expand their water supply (Energy Industry Report, 2009). Most of the water uses in Saudi Arabia goes to domestic industrial and agricultural use in wheat production but the country is currently reducing their agricultural activities since they prefer importing to producing due to cost effectiveness. Since the country is slowly phasing out wheat production, the paradox is that most of the farmers are turning to fodder crops that require more than ten times the amount of water used to produce wheat. This means that the country will still need more water for other small-scale agricultural production (Monads & Rehman, 2013). Benefits of large-scale sustainable sources of energy in Saudi Arabia If the country fu lly implements the use of sustainable sources of energy, it will help her diversify the use of energy for security purposes. The use of sustainable sources of energy would lead to reduced emissions of greenhouse gases, effluents and other wastes that have a negative impact to the environment. The use of susta

Policy Issue Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Policy Issue Paper - Essay Example The energy security is a very vital issue and deserving of its inclusion in the State of the Union address because it is concerned with the most valuable component of American life, - the energy which fuels the entire US nation, from the west to the east coast, to life. Without this energy source, life in America and everywhere in the world will virtually halt to a standstill. Oil is the chief energy source of the United States and not surprisingly, US is the top oil user in the world, guzzling 20, 588,000 barrels of oil per day according to a 2006 statistic (EIA 1). The problem however with this valuable fossil fuel is that not only is it a potential powerful political tool but that its very availability is now in question. There are claims that oil world resources are dwindling although some quarters like the Cambridge Energy Research Associates are disputing this CERA 2006). It can be fairly said however that the issue of global warming is by now beyond dispute although largely still unacknowledged. Recent scientific studies has established that the burning of fossil fuel emits carbon dioxide to the atmosphere and, along with other greenhouse gases, prevents sunlight from being reflected out of the earthââ¬â¢s atmosphere causing global warming. A hot planet in turn, disturbs climate cycles, melts the ice in the north and south poles altering the water-land ratio, and changes ecosystems (NRDC 2007). With these problems, it shouldnââ¬â¢t be a surprise therefore that the President, in talking about energy security, primarily focused on reducing oil consumption and specifically suggested alternatives like the ââ¬Å"funding of technologies that can generate coal power while capturing carbon emissionsâ⬠, increasing ââ¬Å"the use of renewable power and emission-free nuclear power,â⬠ââ¬Å"investing in advanced battery technology and renewable fuels,â⬠creating a ââ¬Å"new

The Importance of Net Neutrality Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
The Importance of Net Neutrality - Term Paper Example Because of the current net neutrality legislations, these intersecting networks are able to send and receive data from one point to the other without additional payments. Devoid of net neutrality, that would not be the case. Network machinists would be able to regulate traï ¬Æ'c further closely and emphasise on making cash out of one another rather than giving reliable amenity. When net neutrality introduces certain challenges for content-providers and final-users, we trust the beneï ¬ ts exceeds those challenges. Net neutrality provides new developers the chance to share their thoughts with the world through not crippling them economically. While the cancellation of net neutrality profits broadband providers, it will bring problems to a lot of value providers. Therefore it could significantly stiï ¬âe how the internet works, similarly as the economies that depend on its services. The machinery industry is industrializing so fast today; it is futile to say what is most desirabl e for the future. But one thing to be certain of: eliminating net neutrality would change the internet overwhelmingly for a more good or bad (Gross, 2009) Because of the magnitude of these files, such transfers are able to consume a substantial fraction of the internetââ¬â¢s bandwidth. Bit Torrentââ¬â¢s wireless connection guide offers two model downloads which it says will ââ¬Å"max out your internet connection within a few minutesâ⬠ââ¬Å"Digital piracyâ⬠. Examining one prominent circumstance, the operators of a Swedish website termed as ââ¬Å"The Pirate Bayâ⬠were found guilty of copyright desecration when providing a directory of movies and extra files available in the website via Bit Torrent (Patrick & McBride, 2009). In 2007, some of Comcastââ¬â¢s Internet clients encountered challenges when operating with Bit Torrent. The Allied Press investigated and conveyed that Comcast was prying with the Bit Torrent decorum (Svensson, 2007), leading to
